Accelerates expansion into the global eco-friendly vessel market by supplying high-efficiency engines for a total of 14 ships

STX Engine has marked a major international breakthrough by securing a project to supply eco-friendly engines for ultra-large container ships operated by Danish shipping giant Maersk, the world's leading ocean carrier. 

The company announced on the 30th that it signed a contract with China's NTS Shipyard to supply marine engines for a total of 14 ultra-large 19,000 TEU container vessels, comprising eight firm orders and six options.

Central to this contract is a hybrid engine supply strategy that delivers both environmental sustainability and cost efficiency. Under the arrangement, STX Engine will supply a combination of two eco-friendly Dual-Fuel (DF) engines and two conventional diesel engines per vessel. By running on both gas and diesel fuel, this configuration complies with stringent International Maritime Organization (IMO) environmental regulations while significantly reducing both shipbuilding and operational costs, earning wide recognition for satisfying the demanding requirements of both the shipyard and the shipowner.

This order holds particular significance as STX Engine’s first major win resulting from its direct entry into the overseas marine engine market. Having specialized in marine engine manufacturing for five decades, the company firmly demonstrated its technological prowess in this global competition, drawing on its accumulated expertise and a proven track record of delivering eco-friendly dual-fuel engines to major domestic shipyards.

The insider added, “Building on this order, STX Engine is well positioned to further solidify its standing in the global eco-friendly marine engine market going forward.”
